No deliverance: when gig workers fall prey to road accidents
As the number of workers employed by delivery platforms increases, data from various States, collected by trade unions, show that accidents, injuries, and deaths among them have been on the rise over the years. Though the Union government maintains that gig workers will be covered under the Code of Social Security, details made available in Parliament show that many families of the workers who died or suffered injuries during work did not receive the accidental or death insurance benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)
