When a 16-day strike by transport employees and a bus accident on Deepavali shook Tamil Nadu in 2001
In November 2001, transport corporation employees’ unions struck work demanding the Tamil Nadu government to increase annual bonus to 20%. During the strike, 28 persons were killed in Thoothukudi district in an accident involving a TNSTC bus allegedly driven by a temporary casual labourer.
